Khairy: BN parties yet to reach consensus - Barisan Nasional component parties have yet to reach a consensus on the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said further discussions were needed before any decision was made.
On Monday, Umno supreme council member Datuk Ahmad Maslan said all Barisan component parties could not object to the proposed amendments if it was taken over by the Government for second reading.
When asked to comment, Khairy pointed out that at this juncture, it was too premature for anyone to speak on this issue.
“I hope all the parties will come to a consensus and an amicable decision,” the Youth and Sports Minister said after launching the Happy Going Back to School 2017 programme here yesterday
The proposed amendments to the Act were initially raised in Parliament by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang when he read out the motion to enhance the Syariah courts.
At the recent Umno general assembly, its president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also the Prime Minister, said the issue should not be politicised as the Government would eventually take over the Private Member’s Bill.
