V Shem-Wee Kiong The Latest Withdrawal From Malaysian Masters

V Shem-Wee Kiong The Latest Withdrawal From Malaysian Masters - There are more withdrawal woes for Malaysia at the Malaysian Masters.

The tournament begins in Sibu today but Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong and Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin won’t be around to compete for the men’s doubles title.

Wee Kiong is out of the second-tier tournament after suffering a shoulder injury while Yew Sin could not compete as his grandfather has passed away.

As the world No. 1, Wee Kiong-V Shem were expected to win Malaysia’s first badminton title of the season.

Earlier, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying also withdrew from the men’s singles and mixed doubles. Both Iskandar and Liu Ying are still nursing injuries.

Wee Kiong said he was sorry for being unable to compete in Sibu.

“I suffered a slight right shoulder injury when I returned to training here. The doctors told me to take a rest,” said Wee Kiong, who helped Hyderabad Hunters reach the semi-finals of India’s Premier Badminton League last week.

“I wanted so much to be in Sibu ... I’m really sorry,” added Wee Kiong, who will now focus on the All-England in Birmingham from March 7-12.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi, the nation’s No. 2 pair, were already in Sibu. Both left yesterday for Kuala Lumpur after hearing the demise of Yew Sin’s grandfather.

“Yew Sin found out that his grandfather passed away when we arrived in Sibu on Sunday. It’s best to go home as he’s not in the right frame of mind,” said former world junior champion Ee Yi.

Malaysia’s hopes in the men’s doubles now rest on national No. 3 Chooi Kah Ming-Low Juan Shen, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and former internationals Hoon Thien How-Teo Kok Siang and Lim Khim Wah-Mohd Arif Abdul Latif.

Taiwan will be banking on second seeds Lee Jhe-huei-Lee Yang while Indonesia have Mohd Ahsan-Rian Agung Saputro, Berry Angriawan-Hardianto Hardianto and Hendra Gunawan-Markis Kido. India’s best bet for the crown is third seeds Manu Attri-Reddy B. Sumeeth.
