Dad And Two Daughters Killed - A routine trip to pick his daughters from school and kindergarten turned fatal for a 35-year-old despatch rider when all three were killed in an accident.
The victims identified as Mohd Lazi Mohd Taher, eight-year-old Nur Faisha Mohd Lazi and five-year-old Nur Balqisha Mohd Lazi were hit from the rear by a lorry travelling in the same direction at about 1.30pm yesterday.
Mohd Lazi with his daughters riding pillion were returning to their home at Tambak Bugis in Telok Mas here when he tried to avoid a pothole and all three fell off the machine.
The lorry driven by a 72-year-old man ran over them. They died on the spot from head and body injuries.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said a police report had been lodged.
A relative, Mahwa Lani, 46, said Mohd Lazi had picked up his eldest daughter from SK Telok Emas and Nur Balqisha from a nearby Kemas kindergarten and they were returning home for lunch.
It has been a routine for Mohd Lazi to fetch his daughters from school before returning to work at legal firm here.
“I was really shocked when I heard that all three were killed instantly. It was only in the morning that we had breakfast together,” said a sobbing Mahwa.
She said Mohd Lazi had three daughters and the youngest one is still a toddler.
“His wife and siblings still can’t accept the fact that they have left us. They are all too distraught to even talk to community leaders who came after hearing the news,” she said.
Malacca Education, Higher Learning, Science and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Md Yunos Husin said he has asked the Road Transport Department and police to investigate whether the lorry driver was speeding at the time of the accident.
The accident took place along a trunk road but the impact was devastating, he said.
