Hazmat Team In Probe Thought It Was Only A Drill - The high-profile nature of Kim Jong-nam’s murder prompted the authorities to keep details of their investigation under wraps, to the extent that even the Fire and Rescue Department personnel had thought they were set to take part in a drill during one of the missions in Jalan Klang Lama here.
The Hazmat (hazardous materials) team only discovered what their Thursday assignment at the venue really entailed at the last minute.
A source said the Hazmat team from the KLCC fire station was initially called to participate in a drill with the police at the police academy in Cheras.
The team was then brought to a condominium in Jalan Klang Lama, where police had seized various chemicals, several pairs of gloves and shoes from one of the units in the investigation of Jong-nam’s assassination.
“The team left for the drill at about 8am on Thursday, and returned to the fire station at about 3pm,” the source said when contacted yesterday.
The source added that the City Fire and Rescue operations centre was also not informed about the exercise.
