Sze Fei-Izzuddin Put Up Gallant Fight In Defeat Against China - The spirited performance of men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani eased the pain of Malaysia’s 3-0 quarter-final loss to top seeds China in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships in Vietnam.
World No. 48 Sze Fei-Izzuddin stole one game from world No. 6 Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen before going down 21-19, 20-22, 10-21 in an exciting deciding match of the quarter-final tie in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday.
The Malaysian Masters runners-up fought gallantly against the Japan Open champions in the second game.
They did well to bounce back from a 17-20 deficit to level the score at 20-20, but were unlucky not to wrap up the match.
While they can walk tall after their fighting display, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie (mixed doubles) and Lim Chi Wing (men’s singles) proved to be a letdown.
Soon Huat-Shevon lost 14-21, 9-21 in just 28 minutes to Chen Qingchen-Zhang Nan while Chi Wing was outplayed 7-21, 14-21 by French Open champion Shi Yuqi in 32 minutes.
In today’s semi-finals, China will take on Japan and Thailand will meet South Korea.
