There’s More To Do In Seoul Than Just Food And Shopping - When you’re done shopping and have time to spare, here are great ways to experience Seoul. See the city’s thriving art scene, delve into its history, experience the food culture and you may just come away with a better understanding of South Koreans and their culture.
Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP)
This stunning piece of architecture, organic in its curves and impressive size, is part of the legacy of the late Zaha Hadid, the renowned Iraqi-British architect. Be amazed at how the DDP’s “skin” of metal squares somehow contort and conform to the fluid and elongated design.
Inside, the plaza is the venue for art exhibitions, design spaces, art markets and museums. The grounds surrounding it complement the creative and artistic theme with installations and sculptures big and small.
Artee pedicab riding tour
Hop on the local rickshaw and be driven around the inner city of Seoul. Homes in Bukchon Hanok village have been preserved to look as they did in the olden days, but there’s a twist. The gentrified area is also home to art shops, cafes and fine dining restaurants.
Do not worry if you’re there during the winter months, as you’ll be snugly covered in a blanket and given a heat pack to hold during the ride.
The riders are energetic, knowledgeable, young, English-speaking (some speak Mandarin too), and their enthusiasm to show you around is infectious.

Korean temple food
If you are longing for something simple and vegetarian, head over to the Korean Temple Food Centre. Whether you’re on your own or with a group, whether you want many lessons or just a one-day class, the centre has a programme ready.
Buddhist nuns will show you how to use seasonal ingredients to cook up delicious meals you can later try at home. They also have classes on food preservation, including favourites like kimchi, soya bean paste, sesame seed oil and so on. Well worth a visit.
