Malaysia See Red In Loss To Thailand - Thailand thrashed eight-man Malaysia 4-0 in the Dubai Cup Under-23 Football Championship.
The National Under-22 squad coached by German Frank Bernhardt saw red at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Football Association Stadium in Dubai after three players were sent-off by host referee Saker Al Zaabi yesterday.
The Thais led through Sittichok Kannoo’s goal from the penalty spot in the 19th minute which resulted in goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Azmi being sent off. Then Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) midfielder Mohd Safawi Rasid (41st) was given his marching orders.
Having the numerical advantage, Thailand scored three more goals in the second-half through Sasalak Haiprakhon (60th), Phitiwat Sookjithummakul (65th) and Tanasit Sripala (90th) while Malaysia’s Ahmad Khairil Anuar became the third Malaysian to leave the field in the 75th minute.
Malaysia drew with China 1-1 on Monday and will play Singapore next on Sunday.
The tournament is played in a round-robin format, which include teams from Jordan and hosts UAE.
Bernhardt is using the Dubai Cup to test his players ahead of the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August.
