AirAsia X Flight Encounters Severe Turbulence, Five Passengers Injured - Five passengers were injured when an AirAsia X flight from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur encountered severe turbulence on Thursday.
In a statement on Friday, the airline said flight D7377 en route to Kuala Lumpur from Taipei with 291 passengers and 11 crewmembers on board, encountered the turbulence mid-flight.
"The aircraft landed safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 at 4.30pm.
"Five injured passengers were treated by paramedics at the airport upon landing.
"All other passengers were attended to by ground staff and provided necessary assistance," said the statement.
Earlier on Friday, footage of the incident taken on board the plane went viral on WhatsApp.
The video shows a stewardess lying on the floor amid strewn food trays, and another steward is seen hanging on to several meal carts in the galley area.
A woman can be heard crying while several voices are heard repeatedly saying, "don't move".
Another stewardess, who is seated, is seen telling everyone to calm down.
"Everything is going to be okay," she repeats.
"We need help to secure ourselves," she is seen saying to another crewmember.
After a few seconds, the other crewmembers on the floor are seen getting into their seats before the footage ends.
