‘Cremate My Body. No Need Tombstone And Funeral. Goodbye’ - “Cremate my body and release the ashes into the sea. No need tombstone and funeral. Goodbye”.
Those were the last words found on the Facebook page of Teh Wen Chun (pic), who fell to his death from a flat near his university college here.
A resident alerted the police at 5.41am on Tuesday after seeing the body sprawled on the building’s compound.
Family members and friends believe the 20-year-old Electrical and Electronic Engineering student could have been stressed due to “cyber bullying”.
His father Beng Hock, 49, described his son as good and obedient who performed fairly well during his first year studies at the university college.
He said Wen Chun was also active in sports like football and basketball during his secondary school days.
“He did quite well in his examination during the first year, without failing any subject.
“He started to behave differently when some college mates started to criticise and shame him on Facebook with some nasty and negative remarks.
“They even named him and I know this affected him badly although he kept telling us everything was fine.
“He probably could not take the constant cyber harassment. That could be the reason he did what he did,” said Beng Hock when met at his son’s wake in Bukit Mertajam yesterday.
George Town OCPD Senior Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said interviews with Wen Chun’s friends revealed that the victim was having a tough time coping with his studies.
He said a post-mortem showed the cause of death was multiple injuries due to a fall from a height.
Wen Chun’s body will be cremated at the Chinese cemetery in Berapit at 10.30am today.
