What’s New And What’s Cancelled From Fox Network - Fox is the first of the five national US TV networks to have officially unveiled its schedule for the 2017-2018 season. From September to June, six new series will be added to the schedule which already includes Empire, Gotham and Lethal Weapon.
Three of Fox’s new series will be launched in the fall. The Gifted is perhaps the most promising of the bunch because of its Marvel label. Set in the X-Men universe, this drama tells the story of children with mutant abilities who go on the run from a hostile government. Stephen Moyer, who played a vampire in the series True Blood, will have a leading role in the drama.
Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville is a science-fiction comedy about the eccentric inhabitants of a 25th-century spaceship. MacFarlane, who is the creator of American Dad and Family Guy, will also be acting in the new series. Also on the comedy front, Ghosted centres on an unlikely duo who investigate paranormal events in Los Angeles.
The X-Files and 911 slated for 2018
Fox is holding back its three other new series until early next year. 911, a drama starring Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee) along with Angela Bassett, is an ER-type drama. Sticking with the medical theme, The Resident is about a young doctor and his cynical mentor. And Will Ferrell will produce the comedy LA To Vegas which follows a group of friends who head to Sin City for a weekend.
2018 will also see the return of the network’s cult series The X-Files. Unlike Prison Break and 24: Legacy, whose future seem uncertain, the network has decided to bring back Scully and Mulder in some new episodes.
Empire returns, Scream Queens is cancelled
The upcoming season will also see the return of Empire, Lucifer, Gotham, The Last Man On Earth, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and New Girl, which will be back for a seventh and final season.
Unsurprisingly, the network has renewed Lethal Weapon, The Mick, Star and The Exorcist, but decided not to renew Son Of Zorn, Making History, APB and Pitch. These will therefore disappear from the network, along with Scream Queens, which was cancelled after two seasons, Sleepy Hollow and Rosewood.
