SAC Mior Faridalathrash said investigation led police to a nearby construction site a few hours after the robbery where they found the 23-year-old suspect in the workers’ quarters.
“We found a knife and a striped T-shirt believed to be worn by him during the attack.
“The suspect is an illegal immigrant and has been detained for two weeks under the Immigration Act.
“When the woman is discharged from hospital, we will ask her to identify the suspect,” he said after visiting the victim, a 24-year-old chemist, yesterday.
He also said the suspect could have taken the victim’s handphone because it went missing after the attack.
On whether she was also sexually assaulted, SAC Mior Faridalathrash said police believed the robber groped her body to search for valuables instead.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.
