Liu Ying Releases Autobiography And Range Of T-shirts - Mixed doubles shuttler Goh Liu Ying surely knows how to make full use of her time away from the badminton court.
The 29-year-old, who is recuperating from a shoulder surgery in Halle, Germany, has released a book about her life as a national shuttler and a range of T-shirts – all with inspirational words – for sale.
Those interested can pre-order the two-in-one package online (www.got1shop.com) now, but the merchandise will only be available in October.
Liu Ying, who won the mixed doubles silver with Chan Peng Soon at the Rio Olympics last year and also finished runners-up at the All-England in March, is excited about her new venture.
She started the T-shirt online business as a joint venture with her good friend and national women’s doubles shuttler Lim Yin Loo.
Liu Ying only began penning her story as a shuttler a few months ago.
“The T-shirt depicts a picture of a doll – and that’s me,” said Liu Ying.
“The book, titled I am Goh Liu Ying, is in Chinese. It’s basically about my life as a shuttler and the ups and downs I have gone through. Hopefully, it will inspire another person.”
The last time Liu Ying was injured – in 2014 – she also kept herself busy doing other things.
She took up modelling during her almost year-long recovery period from surgeries to both her knees back then.
Liu Ying, who has been in Halle since May 13 and underwent the shoulder surgery two days later, said: “The doctor is quite happy with my recovery. I’m still waiting for the final report. I’ll be home before July 2.”
Liu Ying, who injured her shoulder at the Indian Open in April, is only expected to return to competitive action next year.
In her absence, Peng Soon has been guiding youngsters in the mixed doubles department.
He played partnered Peck Yen Wei at the Indonesian Open in Jakarta last week and with Cheah Yee See at the ongoing Australian Open in Sydney.
He will continue to pair up with Yee See for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games from Aug 19-30.
