Will John Legend Win Emmy Award Next? - Could John Legend be the next person to accomplish a historic EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards)?
The 38-year-old musician already has 10 Grammys and a Best Original Song Academy Award in 2015 for Glory. He recently won the Best Revival Of A Play Tony award for Jitney, on which he was a co-producer.
If Legend can add an Emmy to that equation, then he will join an elite group of 12 people – including Audrey Hepburn, director Mike Nichols and filmmaker Mel Brooks – who have completed the grand slam of awards.
In an interview with Billboard, Legend explained why he decided to invest in a project like Jitney.
“Enlighten, inspire and entertain. I feel like those are the things we look for in projects. Obviously, my day job continues to be music, but I feel like we want to put out art that makes the world more interesting and more beautiful, and we’ve been able to do that.”
As a seasoned awards recipient, Legend said the key to having a good night at events is simply to revel in the moment.
“We’re used to going to the Grammys and those kinds of things. I was like, ‘Wow, this is fun, being at a different place than I normally am’.
“Obviously, the world’s watching and the opportunity to perform at the Oscars was just incredible and a pretty monumental part of my career. I say, just enjoy it.”
