Chiang Brothers’ Visit Spurs Goh-Tan To Raise Their Game - Men’s doubles pair Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem had two very special guests at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.
The Chiang siblings – Wai Cheng, 19, and Wai Khang, 16 – are huge fans of national No . 1 pair Wee Kiong-V Shem and have always wanted to meet their idols.
The brothers, who are suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, got more than they wished for when Rio Olympic Games silver medallists V Shem-Wee Kiong spent a good 45 minutes with them – taking photos, exchanging gifts and chatting.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness and usually affects boys.
Wee Kiong said that he was inspired by the youngsters’ positive attitude.
“They’re now officially our super fans. They know every single detail about us. They encouraged us and said that they will always support us.
“Their presence has truly motivated us. As players, we can surely do more.
“We’ll fight harder,” promised Wee Kiong, who is preparing for the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, from Aug 21-27.
The meet-the-player session was made possible by the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia and Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
