Khairul Hafiz Qualifies For Men's 100m Semi-Finals At Asian Athletics Championships - Sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan (pix) clocked a season best time of 10.28 seconds to qualify for the men's 100m semi-finals at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, India.
The Melaka athlete, who will turn 19 on July 22, clocked the fastest time among 36 sprinters that took part in the six heats at the Kalinga Stadium on Thursday.
Khairul finished ahead of defending champion Femi Seun Ogunode of Qatar.
Sarawak's Jonathan Nyepa also advanced into the 100m semi-finals by finishing third in the sixth heat with a time of 10.53.
Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap clocked personal bests twice in the men's 400m.
The 20-year-old from Melaka clocked 47.48 in the heats in the morning to qualify for the semi-finals.
His previous best was 47.60.
Later in the night, he improved his time by 0.02 seconds by clocking 47.46, but failed to qualify for the finals.
In the women's competition, Noor Shahidatun Nadia Mohd Zuki finished a disappointing 10th among 13 athletes in the women's long jump event.
The Kedahan had a poor jump of 5.84m, which was way off her personal best of 6.24m.
