Rape Accused Says Sorry To Victim’s Family From The Dock - There was drama in court when a man accused of raping and murdering a teenage girl pleaded guilty and begged for forgiveness from her family.
Tarmizi Yaakob tearfully turned from the dock to face Intan Suraya Mawardi’s family members and friends, who were seated in the front row of the public gallery.
The 17-year-old was found semi-nude and bloodied at her flat in Teluk Kumbar on Oct 25, 2015.
“Please tell her parents I am sorry. I am so sorry,” said Tarmizi.
Tarmizi, 22, pleaded guilty right after the charge was read out at the Penang High Court yesterday.
This surprised both the defence and prosecution, with counsel S. Yagoo urging the court to reconsider the plea.
He also applied for Tarmizi, who was convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ jail in May this year for another rape in 2015, to be sent for psychiatric evaluation.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed ordered Tarmizi to undergo psychiatric evaluation for a month at Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan.
