Dad Collects Scroll In Honour Of Dead Son

Dad Collects Scroll In Honour Of Dead Son - It was a bittersweet moment for 56-year-old Fauzi Nazir as he walked up the stage to collect his son’s scroll at the 13th Youth and Sports Skills Training Institutions (ILKBS) convocation.

The businessman stood out among the other younger graduates, but he was doing the honour for his son Mohd Amirul Izuan, who died in a road accident last June.

“I am proud but at the same time, I am sad. My son was a hardworking person and he did well to score 3.75 in his CGPA.

“Unfortunately, he is not here today to receive his certificate in electrical engineering.

“But I made sure I came to collect it in his honour,” said Fauzi.

Mohd Amirul, 21, was on his way home after visiting friends on the fourth day of Hari Raya when a car rammed into his motorcycle in Sungai Besar, Selangor. He was an IKBN (National Youth Skills Institute) Seri Iskandar student.

“My son wanted to take up diploma studies after this. While waiting to further his studies, he worked part-time at the timber door company that I am working at in Johor,” said Fauzi.

Fauzi said he had encouraged his children to take up Technical and Vocational Education and Training as he felt it provided better prospects.

“Another son of mine is also in IKBN and is studying automotive engineering. For me, not only are the job prospects better, but studying at IKBN is affordable as there are no fees, and allowances are provided,” he said.

The two-day convocation ceremony, held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, was launched by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
