Myanmar Book Semis Spot With A Six-Star Show

Myanmar Book Semis Spot With A Six-Star Show - MYANMAR qualified for the semi- finals of the men’s Under-23 football competition in style.

The Singapore 2015 silver medallists thrashed Brunei 6-0 in their penultimate Group A match at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam yesterday.

Aung Kaung Mann starred for Myanmar with a hat-trick (74th, 84th and 90+1 minutes) while Aung Thu (24th), Sithu Aung (40th) and Than Peng (90+5) chipped in with a goal each.

Myanmar have an unassailable lead in the five-team standings with nine points from three wins. They had earlier defeated Singapore 2-0 and Laos 3-1.

Myanmar will wrap up their fixtures against Malaysia at the Shah Alam Stadium on Monday.

Second-placed Malaysia, with six points after two wins, need just a point from their two remaining matches to advance to the semi-finals.

The national Under-23 side, under coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee, will wrap up their campaign against Laos on Aug 23.

Singapore, in third spot with three points, still have a mathematical chance to qualify for the semi-finals after picking up their first win in three matches by defeating Laos 2-0 at the Selayang MC Stadium yesterday.

Taufik Suparno (third minute) and Irfan Fandi (11th pen) scored for the Young Lions.
