Quarter-Final Slot For Mixed Doubles Pair In Denmark Open - It was a memorable debut for shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie (pix) at the Danisa Denmark Open held here.
On Tuesday, Soon Huat-Jemie went the distance to beat Kim Jae-hwan-Lee So-hee of South Korea 21-15, 23-25, 21-14 in the first round of the mixed doubles event at the Odense Sports Park.
They will take on sixth seed Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China for a place in the quarter-finals of the Superseries for the first time on Thursday.
The world No. 14 are the only Malaysian mixed doubles pair to clear the opening round after their teammates Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See crashed out in contrasting styles.
Soon Huat was happy that they scrape through.
"We could've finished them in the second game but both us could'nt keep our game clean. Fortunately, we managed to minimise our mistakes in the decider," said Soon Huat.
Shevon was just happy to be the sole mixed pair to hold the fort.
"We managed to win the first game in our first Denmark Open - that's a great feeling.
It'll be tougher against the sixth seeds Chinese pair but we'll give them a tough fight," added the Universiti Malaya student.
