First Asean-China Film Festival To Take Place In Malaysia In December - This year is the the 50th anniversary of Asean (Association Of Southeast Asian Nations). To commemorate this, the Asean-China Film Festival has been announced to establish a long-term exchange and cooperation platform for the Asean film industry, in line with China’s Belt and Road initiative.
The inaugural Asean-China Film Festival will be held in Malaysia next month from Dec 1 to 5. The awards presentation ceremony will take place on Dec 4 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
Multiple-award-winning local film Shuttle Life will be representing Malaysia in competition.
There will be a total of 11 competition films, from China and 10 Asean countries respectively.
These films will compete in the categories for the five main awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and the Special Jury Award.
Sun Jianhua, deputy director of Education, Cultural and Tourism Division of Asean-China Centre (ACC), said heavyweight directors and actors will be making their way to Malaysia to grace the event.
The festival will be screening a total of 31 films — eight films from China and 23 films from 10 Asean countries.
Movie lovers will be able to attend the screenings free of charge at GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion and GSC My Town.
The Chinese films to be screened at the film festival include: Wu Jing’s Wolf Warriors II, Andy Lau’s Saving Mr. Wu, Jackie Chan’s Kung Fu Yoga, Tang Wei’s Beijing Meets Seattle II: Book Of Love, Huang Xiaoming’s Xuanzang, and Alan Mak’s Extraordinary Mission.
Meanwhile, local director James Lee’s Modern Day Love Story will be one of the Malaysian films to be exhibited, on top of Tan Seng Kiat’s Shuttle Life.
Next year, the film fest will be held at Xiamen, Fujian Province, China.
