London, Paris, Rome Top Travellers’ Christmas Wishlist - The idea of a Roman holiday seems to have major appeal this Christmas among US travellers, while Paris has recovered the lustre it lost following the terrorist attacks, suggest the results of a new holiday travel report.
After reviewing the travel plans of more than 760,000 Americans, insurance group Allianz Global Assistance has released the 2017 edition of their Top 10 Holiday Destination Report, which offers a comparative look at US travel trends from the year before.
Though London maintains the top spot as the most popular European destination this year, figures show that interest in the British capital is waning, recording an 11% drop in travel in 2017 compared to the year before.
Closing the gap is Paris, which is seeing a 16% spike in travel this year, compared to a dip of 13% in 2015.
For the report, analysts looked at the online booking processes of airfare and package paths from partners offering Allianz travel insurance, for European travel from June to October 2017.
Meanwhile, Rome leapfrogged from eighth place in 2016 to third place thanks to a 56% rise in interest. Overall, Europe recorded an impressive 9.2% increase of American travellers. Rounding out the top five spots are Frankfurt, Germany and Amsterdam.
