British Artist Wears All His Clothes To Board Flight, Gets Rejected – Twice - A British inter-disciplinary artist (musician, artist, fashion designer) by the name of Ryan Carney Williams was barred from flying out of Keflavik International Airport in Iceland – twice.
The reason? He reportedly wore eight pairs of pants and 10 shirts to the airport to board his flight(s) in what seemed to be an attempt to dodge paying for excess baggage.
Williams was first stopped from boarding a British Airways flight to London on Jan 10 for trying to bring in an oversized bag, when he had only paid for a carry-on baggage fee.
The passenger probably thought he could solve his “problem” by wearing all his extra clothes, but the airline still refused him entry. This caused a ruckus at the gate, prompting the airline staff to call the police.
Once that happened, things calmed down and British Airways, according to the Evening Standard newspaper, arranged for Williams to get another flight to London, this time on a different airline.

Meanwhile, a British Airways spokeswoman said to the Evening Standard: “We give our customers a wide range of fares to choose from to meet their needs. Our hand baggage only fares from Iceland are as low as £47 (RM256) each way and are designed for customers who are travelling without any hold baggage. We do understand that our customers’ plans can change so they can choose to pay a fee at the airport if they need an extra bag. We explained our policy to our customer and arranged an alternative flight to London.”
Williams is more known in the alternative arts world as Ryan Hawaii and is part of a music collective called Neverland Clan. A look through his website shows that his products – T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets and accessories – are priced between £20 (RM108) and £250 (RM1,360).
Remember this?
In 2015, James McElvar from the Scottish boy band Rewind (he’s an actor now), also wore all his excess clothes to board an easyJet flight from London to Glasgow in Scotland. Apparently, he was only allowed one carry-on bag and would have to pay an excess charge of £45 (RM244) to bring in his second bag.
His bandmates were already on board the plane so he decided on what he thought was the “best” thing to do that day – wear all his clothes. McElvar put on six T-shirts, four jumpers, two jackets, a pair of shorts, three pairs of jeans, two pairs of jogging pants and two hats.
Though he was allowed to board the plane, he collapsed a few minutes later from heat exhaustion.
