Dua Lipa And Stormzy Win Big At 2018 Brit Awards - Singer Dua Lipa and rapper Stormzy were the big winners at this year’s Brit Awards, Britain’s most high-profile pop music ceremony, taking two trophies each at an event that saw performances from Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar.

Lipa was named Best Female Solo Artiste and Best Breakthrough Act by the British Record Industry Trust Awards, held in London last night (Feb 21), while Stormzy won British Male Solo Artiste and British Album Of The Year for Gang Signs & Prayer.

Sheeran took the Global Success Award but lost in three other categories, while One Direction star Harry Styles won Video Of The Year By A British Artiste. Damon Albarn’s virtual band Gorillaz was named Best British Group, and US rock band Foo Fighters took the prize for international group.


US rapper Kendrick Lamar was named Best International Male Artiste, with New Zealand singer Lorde taking the female solo artiste honours.

For Lamar’s performance, he rapped on top of a glass cube containing a luxury car that was smashed up by a man wielding a bat. The act appeared to suffer from technical difficulties that muted periods of Lamar’s performance, leading fans on social media to express their frustration.

Other artistes went for grand scale. Timberlake opened the show with Say Something accompanied by a scores-strong choir dotted throughout the a scores-strong choir dotted throughout the audience, while Lipa was accompanied by dozens of dancers, also scattered throughout the arena.

Many in attendance wore white roses on the red carpet and during the show, as a gesture of support for the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements against sexual harassment and abuse, and supporting women’s rights.

“It does make a difference,” Lipa told Reuters of the protest. “We are protesting in our own way and this how we’re going to make a difference.”

The Brits also saw Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher perform Live Forever, a tribute to the victims of a suicide bomb attack on a Manchester venue that hosted a concert by Ariana Grande in May 2017 which killed 22 people.

British media reported that Gallagher had been added to the lineup at the last minute to replace a planned performance by Grande, who dropped out due to illness.
