Fun-Filled Family Holiday In Hong Kong

Fun-Filled Family Holiday In Hong Kong - Iconic skyline, great food spots, and a thriving cultural scene all conspire to make Hong Kong a fantastic one-stop fun hub – whether you’re a cool parent travelling with family for the first time or a returning visitor.

What’s for certain is the lively and exciting atmosphere will entice both the young and young at heart. But where exactly do you go to soak up the fun? We have a few suggestions:

First up, Hong Kong Disneyland is a must-do on the itinerary. Especially if you’re travelling in spring, as the resort celebrates the Disney Friends Springtime Carnival (March 15 to June 20). Look out for your favourite Disney characters at the new Africa-themed Karibuni Marketplace in Adventureland. And then stay till dusk to catch the all-new We Love Mickey! night projection show. And after an exciting day, rest at the newly opened Disney Explorers Lodge hotel.

How does retail therapy for the family sound? Harbour City is the place to go for great brands. The young ones can step up their fashion game with over 40 labels at a dedicated shopping street for kids. That’s not all, the mall is also home to Asia’s largest Toys’R’Us store! And be sure to head over to the Ocean Terminal Deck, a rooftop observatory deck with magnificent views of the surrounding sea.

Of course, all that shopping calls for some refuelling, which the city’s world-renowned culinary scene will take care of. Yum Cha is the restaurant to go to for Chinese cuisine in a vibrant East-meets-West atmosphere. And Wai Kee Roast Duck Rice is a popular Muslim-friendly option for meat that melts in your mouth.

More exciting eateries await you at Discovery Bay. D’Deck is a renowned oceanfront alfresco dining destination with numerous themed restaurants and spectacular views of the sea.

While you’re in the area, take a stroll along Tai Pak Beach. The fine sand on this 400m-long man-made beach was specially shipped in from Hainan Island. It’s also a great spot from which to watch the sunset. (And while the parents enjoy the romantic view, the children can keep busy at the playground.)

Discovery Bay also hosts the Sunday Market that takes place on every second Sunday of the month. It’s a great gathering place to see Hong Kong’s brightest indie-crafters, artists, designers and small business owners.

Of course, a family holiday could always benefit from some cultural immersion. Old Town Central is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods. Blending tradition and innovation, here is where Hong Kong’s contrasting attributes coexist.

Take an Instagram-worthy family photo at the colourful graffiti walls littered around the artsy neighbourhood, and visit PMQ for a deeper look into Hong Kong’s creative and entrepreneurial scene.

For an outdoor adventure, take a camping trip on the outlying islands of Hong Kong. Cheung Chau, for instance, offers family fun activities like cycling and camping.

The island also has the Sai Yuen Farm, which offers activities like the tree-top canopy walk and craft workshops. Top it off with a night’s stay in one of the outdoor tents on the farm.

Before you board that plane, don’t forget to attend a workshop to learn how to bake the traditional lucky buns conducted at Kwok Kam Kee, the island’s oldest bakery. That way, you can always have a piece of Hong Kong back home.
