Tourism Selangor launches new campaign in Europe - With the launch of Tourism Selangor’s new Discover Selangor, #TakeMeAnywhere campaign at the International Tourismus Borse (International Tourism Exchange) 2018 in Berlin, Germany recently, the state is set to receive more tourists from the continent.
The promotional campaign is a platform to showcase Selangor to Europe.
Selangor, with its history and culture, bustling cities and scenic villages, as well as modern infrastructure and gastronomical delights, is said to be a choice destination for local and international visitors. Its popularity among travellers is reflected in the increase in visitors during the past few years.
“Out of the 7.4 million international tourists recorded last year, 400,000 were from Europe. The number has increased 2% from the previous year,” said Standing Committee for Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Selangor chairman Elizabeth Wong.
According to Tourism Selangor general manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, the hashtag-slogan #TakeMeAnywhere is meant to show Selangor as a prime hub for transport, development, investment, business, education, medicine and more.
Highlight of the year
She added that the highlight of this year’s Discover Selangor campaign will be the “Visit Year” event for its various districts.
“As one of the most developed states in Malaysia, Selangor has many historical and heritage places of interest for tourists. District-level Visit Year will spur local authorities to develop their districts with its many places of interest to be more tourist-friendly and easily accessible to visitors,” she said.
Among the districts featured is Kuala Langat.
A tourist attraction that will be of interest to tourists from Europe and other parts of the world is the Mah Meri Cultural Village in Carey Island, Kuala Langat.
The Mah Meri is an orang asli group native to Malaysia. Translated as “jungle people” in their language, the Mah Meri folks are famous for their exceptional wood carvings, woven handicrafts, and traditional dances.
