Soon Huat is expected to play the men’s singles and mixed doubles with his regular partner Shevon Lai Jemie at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre today.
Soon Huat was a singles player before he switched his focus to mixed doubles in 2016 and it should not be a problem for him to win.
Malaysia can afford to rest Lee Chong Wei and field Soon Huat because all their group opponents lacked depth.
Yesterday, as expected, defending champions Malaysia trounced Ghana 5-0 to win their opening group match when all their players defeated their respective opponents in straight games.
Their final group match is against Canada tomorrow.
Their main challengers for the team title are England and India.
