30 Years Of Dirty Dancing And Much More - Can you imagine that’s it been 30 years to this date that we saw a couple doing some dirty dancing? Where was that you may ask?
There is a place, in Pembroke, Virginia, where guests are pretty much guaranteed they’ll have the time of their lives. It’s a place where the writing’s on the wall, where guests will feel a magical kind of “fantasy-yyy.”
To mark the 30th anniversary of the film release Dirty Dancing, Mountain Lake Lodge, the lodge that doubled as the Kellerman’s resort where Johnny Castle and Baby got their groove on is recreating the film in themed weekends throughout the summer.
Fans of the film can now sign up for a Dirty Dancing Weekend, where they’ll strap on their dancing shoes and channel their inner Johnny and Baby.
Along with a tour of the lodge and its filming locations, the package also comes with dance lessons, a Dirty Dancing-themed scavenger hunt, dance party and meals throughout the stay.
The lodge itself is set in the middle of 1,052ha nature reserve in the Appalachian Mountains.
In the film, it serves as the setting for the upstate New York summer retreat where Frances “Baby” Houseman falls for dance instructor Johnny, in an unlikely love story.
Fans of the film will immediately recognise the exterior of the lodge as the same facade shot in the film.
Unfortunately, if you’re hoping to recreate the iconic “lift” scene in the lake with Baby and Johnny, you’re out of luck. The lake has dried up in the 30 years since the film’s release.
The film was also shot at Lake Lure in North Carolina.
Following its release in 1987, Dirty Dancing became a cult classic, catapulting its previously unknown stars Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze (who died of pancreatic cancer on Sept 14, 2009) into Hollywood stardom.
Along with weekends this summer, the lodge is hosting Dirty Dancing-themed weekends in 2018.
